Red light therapy is one of the most-studied areas in photobiomodulation. See the peer-reviewed research organized by application — skin, recovery, sleep, and cellular function.

Getting Started
  • Three things: published specs you can verify, real support you can reach, and a 90-day home trial backing it up. Budget panels rarely publish irradiance data, often use single-circuit designs that can't run red and near-infrared independently, and typically offer little to no warranty or returns. Celvana publishes full specs, runs five wavelengths on independent circuits, includes a 3-year warranty, and lets you try it at home for 90 days.

  • Most users run 10-20 minute sessions at a distance of 6-12 inches. You can run red, near-infrared, or both circuits depending on your focus. Consistency matters more than session length — daily use is more effective than occasional long sessions.

  • 6 to 12 inches for most uses. Closer increases intensity; further covers more area. The published irradiance figures are measured at 6 inches.

  • Red light therapy is commonly used alongside exercise, skincare, and recovery routines. If you have a specific medical condition, are pregnant, or take photosensitizing medication, check with your doctor first.

  • Not necessarily. Red light therapy follows a biphasic response — there's an optimal dose, and going beyond it doesn't add benefit. More isn't better. We recommend 10–20 minute sessions, leaving at least 6 hours between sessions on the same area. Consistency over time matters more than long or frequent sessions. Using your panel a few times a week, regularly, is the approach studied across the research.

  • Use it on clean, bare skin. Red light (630/660nm) doesn't pass through clothing effectively, so covered skin won't receive meaningful light. Near-infrared penetrates slightly further, but for consistent results, expose the area you're treating directly to the panel.

  • No. Red light panels aren't built for sauna conditions — sustained heat and humidity shorten LED lifespan and can damage the electronics. Use your panel in a normal room-temperature environment.

Science & Safety

  • CELVANA

    Is eye protection required?

Red light (630/660nm) is comfortable to be near, but near-infrared (810-850nm) is invisible and can be bright on direct gaze. We include protective eyewear free with every panel — or simply keep your eyes closed during sessions.

    FDA Registration

Celvana panels are Class II medical devices, manufactured in an FDA-registered facility. Each unit is third-party tested for electrical safety and electromagnetic compliance (FCC Part 15, RoHS).
